1) Kazamatsuri's creative process begins with
detailed reserch. A month or more spent collecting information
is not unusual. "Because I wnat an exact depiction, I don't
compromise, not matter how much time it tales."
|
2) Once his reserch is completed, he makes rough skethc, doing
it over and over until he satisfied.
|
3) Based on the rough sketch, he trasfers a copy of the design
onto white vellum.
|
4)Laying black paper over the paper with the design, he uses
a small blade to cut out the black paper, following the pattern
underneath. The cutting process is extremely delicate, with rows
of fine lines, millimeters wide, for shadows on faces, folds of
clothing, and so on.
|
5) Beneath the clack paper cutout he affixes finely cut pieces
of paper in more than 200 colors, using the colored paper to depict
gradations and subtle shadows.
|
6)Ordinarly, the artist's signature appears on a work, but Kazamatsuri
does not sign his, perhaps due to his emphasis on esthetics.
|
7) The work is completed. "The instant I finish, I'm thinking
about the next piece. This is because I put everything I feel
about a work into it while I'm creating it."
